Why kitesurfing in Australia is a good choice ?
At 20 hours of flight or even more, Australia is an ideal kitesurfing destination for our winter (which corresponds to their summer in the southern hemisphere).
Immense and bordered by coasts, Australia offers plenty of possibilities for kiting, especially on the West coast, which benefits from a regular side-onshore wind from October to March.
You’d better plan at least two weeks to amortize your plane ticket and the time spent in transportation, but once there, you will not regret your choice: the atmosphere is super cool, the wind is there, the possibilities for excursions in the hinterland are numerous… and if you love waves, you will be in heaven!
Best period and spots to kite in Australia
For kiteboarding, if you go to the west side of the country, towards Perth, you will find 3 areas:
-
- spots south of Perth (Margaret River about 3 hours away, lots of waves / Augusta about 4 hours away, super flat)
-
- spots around Perth (Pelican Point, in Perth itself and totally flat / Safety Bay 45min south, versatile spot / Woodmans Point – southern agglomeration – super flat)
-
- spots north of Perth (Lancelin, about 1h30 away – versatile spot / Point Moore – 4/5h drive – waves / Nanga Bay 10h drive – wild and flat)
Check the description of each spot for more details!
Best season for kiting: Roughly from October to March (with slight variations)
