Rivedoux: kite spot summary
The Rivedoux spot is the first spot on the island, located just at the arrival of the bridge. You often see the kites when you arrive by car from La Rochelle.
The wind funnels in this spot and often accelerates more than elsewhere, the wind stats are really good.
There are actually 2 spots at this location:
– Rivedoux Plage spot, to the north (the most popular, at the right after the bridge)
– Rivedoux south spot, near the Chauveau lighthouse (at the left after the bridge)
At Rivedoux North, the water is generally choppy depending on the wind, and there is often a current (when the wind accelerates, the current is also stronger since the space tightens). The spot works well with winds from northwest to southeast (most often it is side on, onshore).
It is best to avoid kiting too close to the bridge to avoid troubles, it is better to stay in front of the parking lot. Also, watch out for rocks and oyster beds on the right side of the spot (easily visible at low tide). There is a zone for land yachting and a kite zone, so the practice is possible regardless of the season.
At Rivedoux South, the spot is often more agitated: you can even find beautiful waves behind the sandbank (the wind is more often offshore).

What is the best period to go kitesurfing toRivedoux?
We kitesurf all year round on the island of Ré, wearing a good 4/3 wetsuit with polar lycra, and off we go for some great winter sessions when the depressions arrive. Moreover, during depressions, the air temperature is generally higher, which helps to not get too cold. Otherwise, if you’re too chilly to come kiting in winter, you will have your window between April and October.
