Baie de Sal Rei: kite spot summary
Located on the island of Boa Vista in the archipelago of Cape Verde, Sal Rei Bay is protected by the micro-island of Sal Rei, offering flat to choppy conditions. Attention freeride enthusiasts: you can ride for about 2 km between the shore and the island of Sal Rei.
The spot is exposed side-offshore but safety is ensured by kite schools, making the spot accessible to beginners. Compared to Sal, Boa Vista is a less arid and less touristy island.
Pros: flat water – ideal for freeride – limited tourism Cons: side-offshore wind – slightly gusty – shorebreak at the edge
Tips:
– There are direct flights to Boa Vista from Portugal, but for the rest of Europe, you will need at least one stopover in Sal.
– If you dream of sailing with turtles, Boa Vista offers you the opportunity, 3 kilometers downwind from Sal Rei at Turtle Bay. It is also possible to find some waves.
– Apart from kiteboarding, there are many activities available: mountain biking, quad biking, fishing, surfing…
