Safaga: kite spot summary
The Safaga spot is located just below Soma Bay (5 km to the south) and about 45 minutes from Hurghada airport, on the Egyptian Red Sea coast.
It is a slalom and freeride spot several kilometers long. The wind is offshore in the morning, turns side in the afternoon, and blows regularly. The water is slightly choppy when you move away but shallow at the edge, which allows for easy learning. However, there is coral everywhere in the bay, so it is better to have booties (especially for beginners).
The landscape is beautiful: the endless desert overlooking the Red Sea. You can kite in front of the hotels but it is best to take a boat to a kind of large lagoon ideal for sailing. You take off from the sea (shallow water but no beach).
If you are looking for a place to go out in the evening, know that there is less atmosphere in Safaga than in Soma Bay (it all depends on what you are looking for).
