Ouano: kite spot summary
The Ouano spot is located on the west coast of New Caledonia, in the middle of the island.
While Ouano is a versatile spot that offers all types of navigation conditions, it is especially renowned for its waves.
Indeed, you will find a flat area in the lagoon for freeride/freestyle enthusiasts, and a world-class left-hand wave on the reef about 5 km from the coast, for wave experts only.
Although it is possible to navigate at all tides, it is ideal at high tide. The bottom alternates between sand and mud but there are still some coral blocks here and there.
Pros: versatile spot – world-class wave – boardshort navigation – turquoise lagoon
Cons: reef accessible by boat – sheltered from east wind
Tips:
– To get there, heading towards La Foa, take a left just before the town to reach the spot.
– If you are a beginner, avoid low tide. Ouano is ideal at high tide.
– Be cautious: the spot is completely sheltered from east wind. However, it generally benefits from 5 knots more than Nouméa with a south wind.
