Ilot Goeland: kite spot summary
The Goeland Islet is a top spot in New Caledonia.
Located about 20 minutes by boat from Grande Terre, the spot is ideal for freestyle and for learning if you are accompanied by an instructor.
It is a shallow turquoise lagoon that becomes increasingly flat as the tide goes out.
The bottom is sandy but there are some coral blocks, especially to the west of the islet: just avoid the dark spots! However, be aware that sailing at Îlot Goéland is only allowed from March to September as the spot is part of a protected natural reserve.
Pros: flat water – boardshort navigation – turquoise lagoon – ideal for a day trip
Cons: only accessible in the low season (dry season from March to September)
Taxi boats to Ilot Goéland depart from Anse Vata, at the end of the peninsula located south of Nouméa.
