Kailua: kite spot summary
Located on the island of Oahu, Kailua is one of the few spots where it is possible to start kiteboarding in Hawaii.
Indeed, it is an ideal spot for freeriding: flat to choppy water, spared from the localism of the North shore, and exposed to onshore winds from April to September.
However, the beach is not very wide, and it can happen that the wind creates waves of good size… so caution is advised! Even though it is not the largest, Oahu is the most lively island in the Hawaiian archipelago and attracts the greatest champions to its famous North shore, which is reserved only for experts, and even then…
Pros: versatile spot – riding in boardshorts – facilities
Cons: choppy water – narrow beach – mass tourism The island of Oahu is served by Hawaii’s main airport, Honolulu HNL. Avoid traveling there between October and March as it is the rainy season.
Respect the swimmer zone and go further out to perform jumps as they are prohibited close to shore.
