Kitesurf at Uruau, Barra Nova et Parajuru

The spots of Uruau, Barra Nova, and Parajuru are part of the Ceara spots located in the southern zone of Fortaleza. Geographically very close, it is easy to switch from one to the other during a kite trip in Brazil.

From North to South, we find:
– Barra Nova, 75 kms south of Fortaleza airport and a short hour drive away
– Uruau, 20 kms south of Barra Nova by buggy along the beach and 50 kms by road
– Parajuru, even further south, 30 kms from Uruau (about 1.5/2 hours drive from the airport).

Focus on the Uruau spot

Uruau is a typical fishing village in Ceara: a sandy beach as far as the eye can see, the ocean in all its splendor, and a freshwater lagoon facing the sea. The spot has slowly developed with several new guesthouses and schools offering their services. But the village remains quiet and authentic.

Consistent wind from August to January, and plenty of space for kiting, that’s what you’ll find!

Regarding the water conditions: the lagoon is completely flat, but its small size limits kite practice. You may have the chance to kite alone or nearly alone as the spot is never overcrowded, but beyond 4/5 kites, it’s better to head towards the sea which offers a vast playground.

In the sea, the water is choppy at low tide (waves break further out leaving space) and more agitated at high tide with nice ramps, allowing for waveriding initiation and fun. In short, varied conditions for all tastes.

Uruau’s central location, between Barra Nova and Parajuru, allows for full enjoyment of downwinds and excursions offered.

Focus on Parajuru spot

Parajuru is the most southern spot of the 3. Once frequented mainly for downwinds, there are now some structures that allow you to fully enjoy the setting.

The village is protected by a strong environmental policy that helps preserve the calm and beauty of nature.

Like its neighbors, the Parajuru beach extends for kilometers, with almost no construction to pollute the landscape. Sandbanks form warm, completely flat lagoons, ideal for learning or for more experienced riders.

On the other side, beautiful waves also offer superb conditions, with the size varying according to tides.

Parajuru is undoubtedly a haven of peace and tranquility, made for lovers of calm and nature.

Focus on Barra Nova spot

Located north of Uruau, this spot has roughly the same configuration as its neighbors: waves on one side, flat lagoons on the other. It is also a very protected place, with only a few accommodations on site.

How to organize your trip?

As mentioned earlier, these 3 spots being very close geographically, it is very interesting to combine them during your stay.

Several options are possible:
– Stay in Uruau, the “most” developed spot, and organize day trips to Barra Nova and Parajuru (downwind possibilities, buggy excursions, etc.). This is what most kiters do.
– Decide to do a combo, dividing your stay between these 3 spots to immerse yourself in each of them
– Choose to stay in Barra Nova or Parajuru to enjoy absolute peace. In any case, we recommend trying all 3 places at least once during your stay!
