Ilet Caret: kite spot summary
Caret Islet, as its name indicates, is a very small deserted island, 5km north of Basse Terre in Guadeloupe.
It can be accessed by boat from Morne Rouge (St Rose) through organized trips (ask your hotel) or by contacting local fishermen.
Even though the island is tiny (250m long – 20m wide), there is enough space to launch comfortably. It is a very pleasant spot for a day, reserved for kiters who can ride upwind (at the risk of going very, very low). There are a lot of coral heads, so avoid jumping anywhere.
Beginners can choose a school that will take them kiting at this spot.
You can have a barbecue and relax in the shade of a coconut tree. Ideal for families or friends.
If possible, avoid weekends because all the locals go there (lots of people and boats on one small island).
