Pounda: kite spot summary
Located on the West Coast of Paros in the Cyclades, the kite spot of Pounda – Paros is one of the most renowned in Greece and benefits from particular conditions for kiting.
Indeed, the spot is located in front of the island of Antiparos and is therefore in a wind corridor accelerated by the two islands, while leaving a distance of at least one kilometer to ride good freeride boards. In fact, the wind is often very strong in high season, which is not necessarily ideal for beginners.
The spot is well equipped with facilities, including two schools where you can rent equipment or leave yours in storage for very little.
The beach is quite narrow and quickly crowded in high season, but the water, flat to choppy, is vast.
The pros: facilities – strong and consistent wind – vast water area
The cons: crowded in high season
Some tips for getting there:
– No direct flight to Paros: you will either have a transfer by plane from Athens to Paros (or from Mykonos to Paros if you landed in Mykonos), or a ferry transfer.
– The ferry from Athens takes about 4 hours and costs around 30€ per person per trip. The ferry from Mykonos takes about 1.5 hours and costs around 20€ per person per trip.
– Remember to book in advance!
If you want more information about Paros and kite spots, I recommend reading the story of one of our ambassadors who shares his experience on his kitesurfing trip to the island of Paros.

The Pounda spot often works well due to the reinforcement of the base wind by a thermal wind that picks up in the early afternoon. This phenomenon is not taken into account in the statistics, so they end up being underestimated. Furthermore, there is an acceleration of the wind on the Pounda spot in Paros. Indeed, the spot is located between two islands: Paros and Antiparos, creating a wind acceleration corridor, much to the delight of wind users.
