Mikri Vigla: kite spot summary
Located on the southwest of the island of Naxos in Greece, the spot of Mikri Vigla – Naxos benefits from the venturi effect between the islands of Naxos and Paros. It is indeed on the west coast of Naxos that you will have the most wind.
The choppy water is ideal for freeriding, and also for good bump and jump sessions offshore where the swell is present.
However, the spot is quite small and is not immune to mass tourism in the summer.
The pros: strong and consistent wind – kite atmosphere
The cons: high attendance – small spot – slightly gusty wind
There are no direct flights to Naxos: you will either have a transfer by plane, or a plane-ferry transfer in Athens or Mykonos. The ferry from Athens takes about 5 hours and costs around 30€ per person per trip. The ferry from Mykonos takes about 1.5 hours and costs around 20€ per person per trip. Remember to book in advance!
Tips:
– The wind is often very strong in high season, so bring small kite sizes!
– There are plenty of activities besides kiteboarding: catamaran, island tours, boat excursions…
– In Naxos, it’s better to rent a car as the island is very mountainous and the coasts are often too steep for a scooter.
