Agios Nikolaos: kite spot summary
Agios Nikolaos is a small Greek village overlooking the Ionian Sea, to the west of Greece and across from Italy. The village is located close to the island of Lefkada and the Preveza airport.
It is a typical and peaceful village, and an ideal summer destination for family kite vacations.
The spot is located 3km from the village (it is better to have a car to get around and explore the surroundings), it is large and divided into 2 parts:
– sea side: reserved for the kite school and bathers
– lagoon side: flat, ideal for freestyle
The sea is really good, the spot is secure and there is almost no danger for kiteboarding. You have a sandy beach for takeoff and landing and plenty of space to inflate, which makes things enjoyable!
To get to Agios Nikolaos:
– by car: take the boat from Ancona in Italy and then follow the direction of Igouminitsa in Greece. Agios Nikolaos is located 100km to the south.
– by plane: Paris / Athens then 5 hours by car or direct flight to AktioPreveza airport, located only 10km away (note that flights are not necessarily frequent, so be sure to book in advance).
Best season for kiteboarding: from May to September, with peak winds in June / July / August (thermal).
Recommended kite size: 12m (between 10 and 20 knots).
