Atins: kite spot summary
South of Sao Luis on the Brazilian coast is a wild kitesurfing spot in the village of Atins.
There is a truly paradise spot, with a very regular wind that can sometimes blow quite strongly. The kitesurfing spot of Atins, its village, and its surroundings are very exotic. There, you will find sandy roads somewhat like in Jericoacoara.
The life of this small village revolves around a growing tourism. You will find everything you need: guesthouses for accommodation, excellent quality restaurants, bars to go out a bit. Once there, everything is done on foot, or in a 4×4 for excursions.
Accessibility to Atins is easier from Sao Luis. Arriving in Atins from the south is not necessarily easy, but it is definitely worth it! Kitesurfing in Atins is well-deserved, but the adventure to get there is so beautiful!
What’s great about Atins is the high quality of the kitesurfing spot with a large beach for takeoff without any danger. I loved the sunset sessions that end with a caipirinha in a beach bar.
The atmosphere on site is welcoming, and it is a place that will also delight non-kiters. Just a short distance from Lençois Maranhenses, it is an adventure not to be missed. It is also possible to take an excursion to kite in the desert lagoons!

A completely wild setting, with shallow waters, flat conditions, and in some areas a slight chop, warm water, and very consistent wind. This is exactly what awaits you if you decide to make a quick stop in Atins. If you want to try out some waves, there is also a small surfkite spot a bit further out from the lagoon. So, there is something for everyone. There are usually around twenty kiters on the spot, but it’s not a problem as the spot is large and can easily accommodate up to 30-40 practitioners without getting crowded.
