Kitesurf At El Cuyo

Kitesurf spot In Mexico

El Cuyo: kite spot summary

Why is El Cuyo a great kitesurfing destination?

What makes El Cuyo unique is this rare combination: perfect kitesurfing conditions, an uncrowded spot, and an authentic atmosphere far from the busy tourist resorts.

Here, you share the beach with three fishermen, a few locals… and the wind.

What are the kitesurfing conditions like in El Cuyo?

The spot is ideal: perfect for beginners just starting to learn, and for advanced riders looking to throw tricks all day long.
The water stays shallow for dozens of meters, which builds instant confidence.

The wind blows mostly side-onshore, between 15 and 25 knots, with great consistency—especially from February to May.

No heavy shore break, no hidden rocks—just flat water or a light chop depending on the day. In a shorty or even just boardshorts, you can ride in total comfort all day long.

What can you do in El Cuyo besides kitesurfing?

Between sessions, the magic of El Cuyo continues. The village is peaceful, colorful, and bordered by jungle. You can go spot flamingos in the Ría Lagartos reserve, explore the dunes on a fat bike, or simply chill on the beach with a good book.

At night, the show isn’t over—sometimes, the sea glows with bioluminescence. Walking in the water and seeing each step light up is a memory you won’t forget.

What is the best period to go kitesurfing toEl Cuyo?

The best wind season runs from November to July, with a peak between February and May. I was there in March and rode almost every single day. The wind stats are solid, and when the forecast looks uncertain, thermal winds often kick in and save the session.

With wind generally blowing between 10 and 25 knots, it’s a good idea to pack your bigger kites—somewhere between 9m and 12m should have you covered.
