Anse Michel: kite spot summary
Why a kite trip to Martinique?
Martinique, located in the French Antilles and nicknamed Madinia, is a great kite destination during the winter. Just like in Guadeloupe, you can enjoy a warm and pleasant climate, turquoise lagoons, and beautiful beaches to take a break from the European cold, all just a few hours away by plane (about 8 hours).
It’s an ideal destination to mix a kite trip with a family vacation. The pace of life is relaxed, the people are welcoming, and there are plenty of excursions and activities to do (hiking, diving, sailing, etc.).
In terms of kiteboarding, it’s a quiet destination with trade winds (make sure to bring kites of good sizes as the winds can be quite light).
Best season for kiting: December to June
For whom: couples, families, groups, solo travelers – All levels of kiteboarding
Spots: Freestyle, Freeride, Downwinds
The Anse Michel spot in brief
Anse Michel is a kite spot located in the south of Martinique, 15/20 minutes from Le Vauclin. From the main road, follow the signs “Anse Michel – Ilet Chevalier”. There are 2 accesses to reach the spot.
The spot is located in a huge cove, with a sublime view: from the lagoon, you can see the dark green trees falling onto the turquoise lagoon, and a beautiful white sandy beach with coconut trees. The setting is idyllic.
The wind is onshore (very slightly side on), and the bottom is sandy, with algae and some corals. You can stand for a long time, especially on the left side of the water when facing the sea (it’s the ideal spot for beginners). For more experienced kiters, you can kite everywhere, almost up to the coral reef (be careful, there are quite a few coral heads sticking out).
There is a slight current near the green buoy, on the right side of the spot, it’s best to avoid troubles in that area. There is a kite club on the beach that offers lessons and rents equipment.
