Kitesurf at Barra do Cunhau

The kite spot of Barra Do Cunhau is another spot in the Brazilian Northeast, which is part of the kite spots in the Natal region, just like Tibau Do Sul and Sao Miguel de Gostoso. (from North to South, we find: Sao Miguel – Natal – Tibau do Sul – Barra Do Cunhau).

It takes about 1h15 to cover the 90 km that separates the Natal airport from the spot of Barra do Cunhau.

Barra do Cunhau is, like its neighbors, a very peaceful spot set in a fishing village. The beach is huge (more than 5 km of dunes) and lined with hundreds of coconut trees. There is plenty of space for kiting and strolling.

In terms of water conditions: in Brazil, there are lagoons. Barra do Cunhau is no exception. Its ideal location at the mouth of a river gives it a large flat water zone at the river entrance and beautiful waves at the exit, on both sides of the river. It should be noted that the waves are not all the same size everywhere: on one side there are expert waves, which are fast and hollow, and on the other side there are smaller waves, ideal for those who want to learn waveriding.

The best wind season is from July to mid-December, with wind between 15 to 25 knots until the end of October (kite size 7/9), and then lighter wind towards the end of the season (bring a 12 as well).

The spot of Barra do Cunhau is ideal for lovers of peace and nature (there is a large mangrove near the river). For more entertainment, you can go to Pipa, only 8 km from the village, which is a famous surfing spot and well known for its parties!
