Bray Dunes: kite spot summary
Bray Dunes is located just next to Dunkirk, a few kilometers to the East. It can be reached in 3-3.30 hours from Paris.
The spot is on a huge sandy beach, which offers similar conditions to other spots in the North: vast spaces, shallow water at low tide, changing water conditions depending on the tide (choppy at low tide, waves at high tide) and a lively seafront.
There are few obstacles at low tide, but when the tide comes in, the takeoff area shrinks and one must be careful of the blockhouses.
It is recommended to kite to the right of the beach (facing the sea), as there is more space.
Wind direction: The ideal wind ranges from Southwest (side shore port) to Northeast (side shore starboard).
Recommended kite size: It is difficult to generalize. It is advisable to check the forecast before going. In winter, it is usually 7/9m – in summer, 12m and above.
