Cozumel: kite spot summary
The kite spot in Cozumel is an island 50km long and 16km wide located in front of Playa Del Carmen, 45 minutes by boat (or accessible by plane from Cancun, or even from some American airports). The ferry trip from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel costs around 15€. Once there, it is ideal to rent a car and explore the island!
For kiteboarding, the spots are located in the North and East of the island: the East has several wave spots (for example Playa Bonita with beautiful easy-to-surf waves), while in the North there is more flat water (lagoon spot), perfect for freestyle.
It is an ideal destination for families, away from the hustle and bustle of Cancun. However, there are still plenty of things to do in Cozumel.
If you have some time, don’t hesitate to mix it up with other kite spots in the area (Holbox… etc) in Mexico.

The Cozumel spot is a spot that works under the trade winds regime, with thermal reinforcement during its season from December to May. The statistics are therefore skewed. On thermal days, basic forecasts can be reinforced by several knots, increasing the number of kitable days to 60-70% between December and May.
