Gravelines: kite spot summary
The spot of Gravelines is located in the North of France, between Dunkirk and Calais. If you come by road, take the A16, exit A23, direction Gravelines.
The particularity of this spot is that at high tide (with significant coefficients), one can observe the formation behind the sandbank of a “small sea” of just over one square kilometer, with shallow water and flat conditions. It is a great place to learn, or to kite in a safe manner. To enjoy it, you must be there at the right time, which is around high tide.
Be aware that on weekends, it can get really crowded.
In addition, you can kite in the waves behind the flat area, or at the Stelle, which offers a versatile spot with waves that are navigable regardless of the tide and coefficients.
Wind direction: from South-West (gusty) to North-East (through the north).
Recommended kite size: It is difficult to generalize. You should check the forecasts before going. In winter, it’s usually 7/9 – In summer, it’s 12+.
