Hemmes de Marck: kite spot summary
This spot is just south of Gravelines, near the town of Oye Plage and on a larger scale between Calais and Dunkirk.
The beach here is also very large (over 2 kms) and very wild.
This spot is ideal for freeriding and beginners because you can walk for 2 or 3 kms (!!), the beach is sandy and gently sloping, there is plenty of space and the water is relatively flat thanks to the protection of sandbanks.
Operation: The best wind direction is from the Northwest to Northeast, and like many spots in this region, it is best to kite around high tide (otherwise the sea retreats too far).
Recommended kite size: Difficult to generalize. It is best to check the forecasts before going. In winter, it is usually 7/9 – in summer, 12+.
