Ilot Tenia: kite spot summary
Tenia Islet is a tiny island, 1 km long and 600 meters wide, facing Saint Vincent Bay on the east side of Grande Terre (the main island of New Caledonia). It can be accessed by car (about 1.5 hours from Nouméa to the Bouraké wharf) and then by boat (about 30/40 minutes).
The islet is deserted, with no inhabitants, but it is possible to stay there for a few days and camp (wild camping style, you need to bring your own supplies).
The island is shaped like a triangle, with white sandy beaches and lush vegetation, making it a true little paradise. It is a protected marine area, with abundant and beautiful fauna and flora: various fish species, baby sharks, and sometimes even dolphins. Snorkeling is a must-do activity.
Tenia Islet offers ideal conditions for kite surfing: – large flat areas in the turquoise lagoon, perfect for freestyle and freeride – beautiful waves on the reef, ideal for surfing or kiting – a lovely wind-protected beach for children and relaxation
Note that at low tide, there is little to no water around the island, so it is best to visit at high tide.
