Why kitesurfing in Mozambique is a good choice ?
Mozambique, located in the southeast of Africa, is a multifaceted gem. Bordered by the Indian Ocean, it is renowned for its pristine beaches, coral reefs, and the Bazaruto archipelago.
As a former Portuguese colony, its heritage blends African and European influences, particularly in the capital, Maputo, where colonial architecture buildings stand.
The country also boasts national parks that house exceptional wildlife.
Despite socio-economic challenges, Mozambique, with its cultural mix, breathtaking landscapes, and friendly inhabitants, remains a captivating destination for travelers seeking authenticity.
Beyond this cultural wealth, Mozambique could become a major kitesurfing destination with its excellent quality spots, where steady winds blow from October to March, over large turquoise lagoons.
Best period and spots to kite in Mozambique
Going to Mozambique for your kite holiday has several advantages.
The windy season takes place during the European autumn and winter, so it will be an opportunity for you to escape from the gloomy weather and find the Mozambican sun. Plus, it will be a chance to kite in warm water, so you can leave your wetsuit at home.
The main spot that I like to present in Mozambique is the Bilene spot. A village on the edge of a lagoon accessible by car from the capital. The spot is ideal for all levels of kiters. If you are a beginner, you will appreciate the flat and shallow lagoon with the security services that come with it. It’s ideal for learning quickly. If you are intermediate, the conditions will be favorable for your progression. You can try out your new tricks in a serene atmosphere, with not too strong winds (we’re not in South Africa!).
Around the Bilene spot, there are many kite practice areas. Therefore, this region is conducive to downwinds and exploring new spots, adding some excitement to your Mozambican adventure.
If you enjoy a change of scenery and discovering new cultures, Mozambique is also for you. A kite trip to Mozambique will give you the opportunity to live at the African rhythm in a village on the edge of a kite spot.
Finally, if you plan to stay for a while, you can even mix your kite trip with a safari to discover more of Mozambique’s wildlife.
