Best period and spots to kite in Portugal

Portugal is a great destination for a kite trip in the waves. Indeed, it has some of the best spots in Europe, notably around Peniche (Super Tubos), an hour’s drive north of Lisbon. It is also possible to find superb flat areas, especially in the region of the Obidos Lagoon.

Once there, the best thing is to switch spots depending on the conditions. In this case, you will always find a place to ride.

Additional tips

For a kiteboarding stay in Portugal, renting a car is essential. If only to easily transport your kite equipment, but also to get to different spots depending on the weather conditions.

Car rentals can be found at very reasonable prices starting from around 20€/day. However, be careful not to leave anything visible inside, as there may be break-ins.

What are the best non kitesurfing activities ?

If Portugal is regularly stormed by tourists, it is because there are countless things to do there, since they don’t all do kite.

First of all, when there is no wind, you can always turn to surfing with all the spots that exist on the Portuguese coast.

Windless days are also an opportunity to visit iconic cities like Lisbon or Porto and feel the atmosphere that prevails there.

If your thing is more about nature, some spots are very wild, like the Obidos lagoon, and taking long bike rides in this region is really enjoyable.
