Why kitesurfing in Sardinia is a good choice ?
Just south of Corsica in the middle of the Mediterranean, Sardinia is about twice as large as its French neighbor and offers ideal conditions for a kite trip in spring and summer.
The island is simply beautiful. It resembles Corsica in some aspects: namely its rather arid and mountainous nature and its white sandy beaches preserved from tourism-related constructions.
The natural setting, strong winds (Mistral and Sirocco) and turquoise water make Sardinia a small paradise for kite surfing just a stone’s throw from our home.
This destination offers many flat water spots, which makes it well suited for beginners.
And the cherry on top: the food is superb, as it is throughout the rest of Italy!
Best period and spots to kite in Sardinia
There are two options for kiting in Sardinia:
– The South, which has quite a few spots around Cagliari (including some serious wave spots)
– And the North, which, due to its proximity to Sardinia, receives a stronger west wind than elsewhere during the summer (especially in Porto Pollo).
Best season (for kiting): from June to August. During this period, you can count on thermal effects to strengthen the wind. In addition, there are two wind acceleration effects in Sardinia.
A cape effect in the south of the island on spots like Punta Trettu, and a venturi effect between Corsica and Sardinia in the north, which strengthens the wind on spots like Porto Pollo.

Apart from the plane, it may be interesting to look at the prices of SNCM ferries departing from Marseille: it takes a minimum of 10 hours during the day, and most of them make the crossing at night.
Once there, you absolutely need a car, it’s a bit like in Corsica.
Sardinia is large, to do a surfari (a kite safari of spots), you need to plan for more than a week on site. To cross the island from north to south, you need to allow at least 4 hours.
What are the best non kitesurfing activities ?
Outside of kiteboarding, you will find pretty much the same activities as in Corsica. There are beautiful beaches to visit, whether from the sand or in the water while snorkeling or diving.
Sardinia also offers numerous hiking trails for those who want to have a very active holiday.
Otherwise, there are countless small villages to visit, for leisurely walks on rest days or on days without wind.
