Kitesurf at Koh Pha Ngan

The island of Koh Phangan is located in the Gulf of Thailand, next to the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao. It is part of the province of Surat Thani (to the west on the mainland). The island is world-renowned for its “full moon parties”, which take place regularly throughout the year. The island is beautiful and has dozens of different beaches.

For kitesurfing, you can sail to the south of the island, towards Baan Tai Beach. There you can enjoy a large lagoon and flat water, warm sea, and an idyllic setting.

The wind is fairly consistent but not very strong: it’s perfect if you want to mix family vacation, relaxation, and a bit of kitesurfing, but if you’re going for a 100% kitesurfing trip, it might be a bit compromised (depending on the season, some will be really lucky).

To access the kitesurfing spot in Koh Phangan, you can: – either take a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui (neighboring island – about 1 hour) and then the ferry or a taxi boat. – or take the train from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then the ferry (train journey is very long) – or take the night bus (also very long and uncomfortable) and then the ferry

Be sure to bring large kite sizes because like everywhere in this area, the winds are fairly consistent but not very strong (kite size: 12 / 14 +).

Best season for kitesurfing: winter (December to March) and July-August.
