Lagune de Djeno: kite spot summary
The Djeno lagoon is a Congolese spot, located about 20 km south of Pointe Noire, on the Atlantic Ocean.
Access is quite difficult, a 4×4 is necessary and it is better to be accompanied by someone who knows the way:
– From POINTE-NOIRE, take the CABINDHA road south.
– 2.5 km after the toll, turn right onto the paved road leading to the CEC power plant.
– Before the entrance gate of the plant, take the track to the left towards ZACKEIM. Follow ZACKEIM, Perles de Cote Mateve.
– At the crossroads, turn right-left.
– The track to access the beach runs along the scrap dealer’s wall. Pass in front of the Bureau d’Etude trailer, and head towards the beach.
– Once on the dune, turn left along the beach for 500 m. You can see the Djeno telecom pylon.
– It is impossible to miss the lagoon, which is about 600 m wide and extends inland for over 1.5 km.
For kiteboarding, the lagoon spot is completely flat with offshore wind. It is a kind of closed bay, which is not influenced by tides. You can also cross the dune and go to surf the big waves on the ocean side: solid swell and plenty of tubes.
The wind is light: it ranges from 8 to 15 knots, so large foil kites are recommended. The take-off area is huge, and there are usually no more than 3 people in the water.
