Motu Martin: kite spot summary
Slightly north of Papeete on the island of Tahiti (main island), Motu Martin is the spot that attracts the most people.
Motu Martin is actually the name of the islet that protects the spot from waves and currents, providing a flat and safe water surface, ideal for beginners as well as freestyle riders.
On the black sand beach, you will always find someone to help you launch or chat about kiteboarding. And if you are there for the waves, there is a short right on the reef when the swell comes from the north.
Pros: more reliable wind than the rest of the island – chill atmosphere – paradise setting
Cons: crowded
Some tips:
The spot is located near Mahina, a small town 20 minutes north of Papeete.
There are buses that go around the island until 5pm, but the most convenient option is to rent your own car (60 to 90€ per day).
Make sure to bring something to repair your kites as you won’t find anything on site.
