Orient Bay: kite spot summary
The kite spot of Orient Bay is located on the Atlantic side of St Martin (= on the North East side of the island, French side). The spot forms a large bay ideal for freeriding over 3 km long. The water is choppy and when the wind blows strong, you can jump on nice ramps. If you go upwind to Caye Verte (a few runs), you can kite in the “lagoon”, which is a kind of turquoise and flat playground, with some turtles and rays as a bonus! There are some waves on the barrier behind Caye Verte.
There can be a lot of people on the beach, and boats or jet skis in the bay. Do not hesitate to move away a little from the shore (especially to go to the lagoon).
There are many islets in the bay that allow for lunch breaks or “half day trips” (inquire at your hotel or with the Wind Adventures school). For example, it’s nice to spend half a day at Pinel Islet or go up to the lagoon of Caye Verte.
NB: A nice idea for a downwind is to start from Tintamare (a small island northeast of St Martin) and come back down to Orient Bay.
