Penthièvre: kite spot summary
The Penthièvre spot has the particularity of being divided into 2 distinct spots: the Ocean side and the Bay side.
The town of Penthièvre is at the narrowest point of the peninsula (right in the middle), which means that the 2 spots are extremely close in terms of distance, just 50 meters apart.
On the bay side, the spot is flat and allows for freestyle and freeride sailing. However, you cannot sail at high tide because there is no beach, you are directly on the road (in this case, prefer the Sables Blancs). Also, watch out for the oysters that can cut.
On the other side, the ocean side and in front of the Fort, the spot is more agitated even if the waves are often messy. It is a good spot to go to when it’s too big elsewhere.
There are restrictions in the summer, so it’s important to check before going into the water. You can also take a look at all the Breton spots, to find a spot authorized for the summer.
Recommended kite size and wind: It’s difficult to generalize, it really depends on the day.
In the summer, a 12m kite is often recommended. The rest of the time, it’s more the 9/10m kites that are used, with a 7m for strong winds.
