Playa del Carmen: kite spot summary
The kite spot of Playa del Carmen is one of the renowned spots in Mexico, located 1 hour south of Cancun and in front of Cozumel island. This spot was part of the PKRA circuit a few years ago.
The wind blows between 10 and 25 knots, it is very consistent. The water is flat, and a slight shorebreak forms if the wind picks up.
The place is quite touristy: there are plenty of small restaurants, bars, shops, and a more European atmosphere than elsewhere. But Playa del Carmen is worth a visit if you are in the area. The water is turquoise, it’s nice for riding or doing some tricks.
And it’s just ideal if you are traveling with family: it’s a lively destination but still spared from the hustle and bustle of Cancun.
From Playa del Carmen, the ferry to Cozumel island departs.
