Kitesurf at Pointe d'Esny

The kite spot of Pointe d’Esny is one of the southernmost spots on the east coast of Mauritius. It is located close to Mahebourg and the airport. It takes about 1 hour by car from Trou d’eau douce.

It is like a huge turquoise swimming pool, protected by the coral reef barrier. You can’t see the end of the lagoon at all (and for good reason, it stretches for tens of kilometers). It is a truly stunning spot, with a beautiful white sand beach.

It is ideal to kite there with a southeast or south wind. The wind is then side shore. It also works with an east wind, but you will kite more with an onshore wind, along the beach. As there is often a first line of boats at anchor, you have to manage to get past them to access the vastness of the spot.

The reef is not far, on the right of the spot, it is interesting to go there to kite above beautiful corals. There is also a shipwreck stranded very close to the barrier, it is quite surreal to kite next to it.

Be careful not to go too far to the left, behind the islets (Ile aux Aigrettes), the wind shadow zones can be fatal!

Access is via a very small path, which leads to the middle of the beach. It is not easy to find, it is better to ask for directions.
