Kitesurf at Sotavento

The kite spot of Sotavento is located at the extreme South of Fuerteventura, on the East side. It is by far the windiest spot on the island (it regularly hosts a stage of the PKRA) and the flattest.

Sotavento is surrounded by mountains, which creates a venturi effect and accelerates the wind, which generally blows between 5 and 8 Beaufort in the summer (>30 knots most of the time). However, be careful, as the presence of the mountains makes the wind gusty and very strong. It is advisable to use smaller kite sizes. The wind direction can be side to offshore depending on the period.

There are kilometers of white sandy beaches ideal for water sports (windsurfing and kitesurfing). Even when it is crowded, the beach is large so you always have space.

In fact, there are 2 distinct spots in Sotavento:
– In the South: a kind of basin ideal for beginners. The René Egli 2 center offers lessons at this location.
– In the North: a more intermediate/advanced spot where you can rent equipment or have a drink at the René Egli 1 center.
