Sunset Beach: kite spot summary
The South African spot of Sunset Beach, at the bottom of the bay formed by the Cape of Good Hope, is located at the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean (to the South/Southwest of the country). The water is therefore slightly warmer than on the other side of the cape.
Sunset Beach is a wave spot, but accessible to those who wish to learn waveriding: it is a relatively forgiving beach break, and the wind is onshore, so there is no risk of drifting out to sea in case of a problem.
Pros: forgiving beach break – Cape Town and region atmosphere
Cons: sharks, especially Great White sharks – the water remains very cold
Additional information and advice:
– Sunset Beach is accessible from the town of Muizenberg, 30 minutes from downtown Cape Town.
– Do not go into the water if there is no one else on the spot! (it’s sharky)
