Kitesurf at Trou d'eau douce

The spot of Trou D’eau Douce is located to the east of Mauritius, at the exit of the village of Trou d’eau douce, towards Palmar and Belle Mare. Access is through the public beach, which forms a point and is located at the end of the bay where kiteboarding is possible. The spot is located to the left of the point, facing the sea.

The wind is generally side-on to full on depending on the wind direction. The spot is formed by a large turquoise lagoon, bordered by a fairly narrow white sandy beach for launching. It can be slightly sheltered near the houses.

The wind is consistent, and the water conditions range from flat to choppy depending on the wind strength.

There are a few hazards to be aware of:
– wire mesh on the ground, holding the sand, to the right facing the sea (after the rocks)
– 2 iron poles sticking out of the water a few tens of meters from the shore, right in the middle of the spot (they are easily visible, even at high tide)

You can launch from almost anywhere and kite as you please on this spot. When the wind is side-on, it’s ideal to launch in front of the public beach, to the right of the bay, as there is access to a very large expanse of water. The sea is turquoise and warm, very beautiful with a sandy bottom.

There are some waves on the reef, especially to the right, just before the pass. Be cautious as the reef may be shallow in some areas.

Pros: uncrowded – ideal for beginners and improving skills – turquoise lagoon – great for families – beautiful setting
Cons: shorter wind season than at Le Morne (from May to October max)
