Wimereux: kite spot summary
Wimereux is located close to Wissant, about twenty kilometers to the south. To get there from Paris, you have to pass Boulogne on the A16 and take exit 32.
This spot, like Wissant, is very popular among kiters and windsurfers from the North, Belgium, Germany, etc. The wind blows strong there and the waves can be huge.
You cannot navigate there at high tide: there is almost no beach left and the waves tend to break on the seawall. You also have to be careful of the current, which can be strong.
In the summer, the spot is off-limits before 7pm, you have to go further south to the Rochette spot to kite.
Operation: The ideal orientation is South and South-West, where the most beautiful waves come in (side – side off). With a Northwest wind, the water is a bit calmer and offers freeride conditions.
Recommended kite size: It’s difficult to generalize. You have to check the forecasts before going. In the winter, it’s usually 7/9 – in the summer, 10+.
