Pontal de Maceio: kite spot summary
The kite spot of Pontal de Maceio is located in a small fishing village in Ceara, 130 km south of Fortaleza (1h30 by car) and 30 minutes from Canoa Quebrada. It has preserved its charm and authenticity and is still truly preserved from mass construction and real estate. There are a few pousadas, one or two hotels, and some restaurants.
The place is beautiful and ideal for kitesurfing, and a must in Brazil:
– You can kite in front of the village and the few pousadas “feet in the water”, the water is quite flat at low tide (there are sandbanks that uncover and form like pools) and good chop or waves (quite soft – 70 cm to 1.20 m) that rise at high tide when the sandbanks disappear.
– You can also kite on a sort of lagoon, located 2 km by buggy from the main beach, called “Barra”, which is at the mouth of a river and offers a completely flat water surface of 4 km2. The spot is accessible at low tide.
