Kitesurf at Rodrigues

Approximately 1h30 by plane from the island of Mauritius, the island of Rodrigues is a true kitesurfing paradise, still preserved from mass tourism. There are few hotels, although development is rapidly increasing. Don’t expect the luxury of Mauritius (in terms of large hotels), but rather a family-friendly, wild and pure nature experience.

Kitesurfing spot in Rodrigues:
The island of Rodrigues is surrounded by a vast shallow lagoon (over 200 km2) that offers varied kite conditions, from super flat to reef waves, as well as leisurely rides, catering to all levels. Additionally, the island offers multiple opportunities for exceptional downwinders from islet to islet. Enjoy without moderation! (Inquire with the local schools for guidance or transportation).

The main kite zone is located in the southeast of the island, at Anse Mourouk. However, the highlight is being able to explore the entire island with a boat.

Access & Accommodations:
Access to Rodrigues is by plane (1h30 flight) from Mauritius. Air Mauritius operates two daily flights. Be mindful of baggage restrictions, especially when changing airlines.
It is best to have a car (driving on the left), but taxis or shuttles are also available. Note that the island is underdeveloped, with access to money only in Port Mathurin and limited wifi connectivity.

Accommodation options include hotels or guesthouses, depending on the desired level of comfort.

Pros: Suitable for all levels – variety of spots – downwind opportunities – warm hospitality – untouched by mass tourism
Cons: Long journey – isolation and limited activities outside of kitesurfing

NB: You cannot leave Rodrigues without experiencing the joy of a downwinder between the islets on the lagoon! Check the special baggage allowance between Mauritius and Rodrigues before departure (small plane = limited space).
